Shadow Liaison and Escalation Towards light were initially going to be a sprawling double album with more conventional songs mixed in with quickly made experimental songs (to use a horrible term). It became apparent that the experimental songs didn't fit with the other material though, and they eventually found a home together here. This was intended to be an album of out takes, but I think it stands on its own and is in some ways what Shadow Liaison/Escalation Towards Light was intended to be.

Shadow Liaison, Escalation Towards Light, and White Poppies are a trilogy.
